Yes: Taking Iron supplements can result in stool changing to a dark color. This is normal. You may notice that you are becoming constipated. If so try using a stool softener.

Yes: These can be taken together but iron preparations are irritating on an empty stomach and in my opinion  should be taken with food already in the stomach. Your pharmacist can be very helpful in questions like this.

i got prescribed iron tablets, ferrous fumarate 330 mg, folic acid b12 and vitamin c. my iron level is 26, ferritin 4.4. blood in hemolysis. meantime i can barely walk and my glucose drop fast. will the iron tablets help? are they safe?

: You have severe iron deficiency so ferrous fumarate should help and it's safe to use. In the first couple months you need at least 2-3 tablets of that iron pill a day. I do not understand what you mean by "blood in hemolysis". In hemotytic anemia, ferritin is rarely that low. Sure..: You can take them but i think it is unlikely to benefit you unless you have low vitamin level or low iron saturation which you have not listed. In diabetics, anemia could be due to (anemia of chronic disease), which has no treatment except treating the underlying cause. After all, you hemoglobin level is not a source for worry at this point.

Black Stool: Generally, truly black stools are due to an upper GI bleed in your stomach or early small intestine. If you take iron your stools may look black but are really just dark dark green. Medically, being evaluated for GI bleed seems to be warranted. I doubt Folic Acid is involved in your case.

Totally different: These are entirely different minerals that are required for proper functioning of your body.  Folate (folic acid) is found in grains and leafy green vegetables.  It's needed for red blood cell function and neurological health. Iron is a different mineral often taken as ferrous sulfate.  It's naturally found in leafy green vegetables, some grains, and red meats.  It's needed for red blood cell formation.

Not a problem: These are nice supplements.  They will not interfere with your fertility so relax and enjoy the baby making.

Yes: These should be fine to take in a young female such as yourself. Only a patient with iron overload (hemochromatosis, etc.) should avoid iron supplementation. Most males do not need iron supplementation, but child-bearing aged females often can benefit from these two supplements.

i am having black stools for about two days now. i don't have any stomach cramps or anything. i have also been taking folic acid and vitamin c everyday. what can be the cause of this? should i be concerned? i feel and look healthy?

SEE DOCTOR: Do you take vitamins with iron. Iron can make your stool black. Do you have history of ulcers. Do you have hemorrhoids I would consult your doctor.
