Not normal : Your description of coffee grounds is classic for bleeding which has occurred in the stomach and by the time it has reached the colon and rectum has oxidized and turned dark with coffee ground appearance.  It implies there is something causing losing of blood from your stomach or soffit guess. It is important that you get this evaluated as soon as possible before it gets worse. Stop any aspirin or Motrin immediately.

If vomit does, yes: No need to panic if stool looks likes coffee grounds, but i would wonder what you are eating to make them look this way.Worry if you get bright red blood per rectum or if you get foul smelling black stools, are these are signs of GI bleeding. May be blood: Coffee grounds substance appearing in loose bowel movements may be digested blood from a bleed higher up in the intestinal tract. Blood in you gastrointestinal tract can act almost like a laxative and make you go looser than usual. I would get evaluated. Good luck.

Before Endoscopy: Of course you should worry about this and so should your family doctor.  You need to know if you have H. Pylori infection caused Peptic ulcer disease and if you are anemic. These are diagnosed easily by blood test.

It can: Stomach cancer can be associated with bleeding in the stomach.  The blood gets digested by stomach and the rest  of the GI tract and can have a very dark appearance in the stool.  Please see your doctor to get this examined.

i had a bowel resection on monday. since last night i have been having bloody stools (first like coffee grounds, now red blood.) i have been going pretty frequently. my hemoglobin was 10.8 this morning but by noon it was 8.3. is this okay?
