No: To be precise, gas in the stomach can not cause heart palpitations, but it can give the feeling like there is something happening to the heart when there is not.  We frequently have patients who feel "palpitations" while wearing a heart monitor and we see no abnormalities of the heart rate or rhythm.  So, the sensation can come from causes unrelated to the heart.

Stay healthy.: It is possible to have pain in your stomach area from sigmoid diverticulitis.          i believe that your heart palpitations are relate to stress over your symptoms with diverticulitis.  A thorough physical exam would be recommended.

Dehydration? : If you had vomiting and diarrhea most probably you are dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and gaterode if possible. Stop smoking wont help with the cough. Follow with your physician.

Tachycardia: Any excitement, including orgasm, will accelerate the heart rate but not 12 hours later. If your pulse taking is accurate an episode of 150 beats per minute is a significant tachyarrythmia. Get evaluation by a cardiologist if frequent palpitations &amp; very rapid heart rates occur. Family historyHeart exam,EKG, outpatient heart monitoring and possible treadmill stress testing are the usual screening

It's okay: Heart palpitation in young/healthy individuals is usually benign. Often it represents a "skipped beat" or premature contraction. Being able to visualize your heart beating in your chest/stomach is common in thin individuals. If your palpitations continue or you pass out then you should see your doctor.

Ask your gyn physician about oral bcp's (unless there is a contraindication) and to discuss endometriosis with you as a possibility.

Gastric dumping syndrome can cause palpitations usually occurs after stomach surgery can occur without surgery, it can come from nonsurgical conditions.  Palpitations can occur after swallowing.  Very commonly,  emotions can trigger palpitations. Then there is the rare carcinoid syndrome.  There are other reasons for palpitations from the heart.
