how can you tell if your toddler has a stomach flu?

Vomiting: If he's vomiting and/or has diarrhea most likely he has the stomach flu especially if he's been around other people that have been sick.  Usually it runs it's course in 24 hours if he's sick beyond that you should see your pediatrician.

a baby who had the stomach flu 6 days ago spat on my face and now i'm really worried. can i get sick from it? he seems fine, no one else has got sick

Probably not: Baby stomach flu is usually from viruses and children are more susceptible. Adults are usually not affected even after exposure. Even if u get it,  shd be very mild. Not much to be worried about.

Might well be.: Now, Influenza is a definite possibility. 
Nausea and vomiting can be a part of regular flu although respiratory symptoms usually dominate. Associated with exhaustion and muscle pain, myalgia and joint pain, arthralgia. So take it easy and if you are not better in a day or two go and see your doctor. 
Ibuprofen can cause nausea and stomach pain. 200- 400 Q 6 is the max. Don't take any for a day.

i just had a 24 hour stomach flu. towards the end of it i passed out (syncope) twice in my bathroom. is this normal? i hit my head badly the 2nd time.

Likely dehydration: Likely dehydration contributing. Would suggest hydration, either by mouth or IV if unable to keep fluids down. If cardiac history as suggested by procedures, time for a visit to ER.

Possible. Low risk.: For viral infections such as stomach flu or respiratory flu, close personal contact increases the chances of transmission. With respiratory infections, airborne transmission is more likely than with gastrointestinal infections. In brief encounters, if germs are not airborne, transmission is less likely.

Most likely...: After a viral infection which seems this was the case a rash could appear. In some cases it could be itchy and you can use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) OTC to relieve symptoms of itching. If he looks sick take him to see his doctor.

Rash after flu...: ...Raises the suspicion that it wasn't flu. Mono, scarlet fever, and roseola are some of the more common febrile illnesses that have rash as part of the picture.
