recently in the er with stomach pain. a pelvic and abdomen ct was conducted and found nothing. now i am experiencing diarrhea and nausea 2 hours after eating. getting endoscopy in a month. worried stomach cancer. would ct have shown stomach cancer?

Endoscopy: Endoscopy is much better at catching an early stomach cancer that would essentially be missed on CT scan.  CT scan is useful to check to see if it has moved into other organs like the liver or the lining of the abdominal cavity.

Yes if.....: it's in the early stages. Don't be an ostrich and bury your head in the sand.  Get the endoscopy if your MD recommends it.

can a ct scan detect esophageal cancer and stomach cancer?

: Neither esophageal nor stomach cancer can always be detected on a CT scan, especially if early stage. But, seeing a GI doctor and getting an upper endoscopy, where a lighted scope with a camera is passed into the esophagus and stomach, is the best way to detect these cancers. If an abnormality is found in either the stomach or esophagus, a biopsy can be taken to see if cancer is present. Good luck

Not necessarily: If the scan was done with oral and IV contrast material, it is more likely the cancer could be seen on ct; if no contrast was used for the scan, it is unlikely cancer could be seen.
  Some stomach cancers are flat and not bulky; the flat ones may not be demonstrable on ct.  Also, very small cancers may no be seen on ct, 
the best way to see stomach ca is with an upper endoscopy.

Not unless it : Is advanced case.  Gastric cancer, as other GI malignancies, start in the inner lining of a hollow organ, so in its early stages can be difficult to visualize on ct scan.  By the time gastric, and other GI cancers, become visible on ct, they are far advanced.  So don't rely on negative ct scan to exclude the possibility of stomach or colon tumors.

Unlikely: Stomach cancer would be relatively uncommon for someone your age.  If your symptoms persist you may benefit from seeing a gastroenterologist and having an upper endoscopy.

my chest ct stated that " beneath the imaged abdomen, no significant abnormalities seen." what does it mean? can it rule out stomach cancer?

Negative: Based only on the sentence you cited, it sounds like they did not see anything abnormal. Disclaimers: 1. No scan is perfect. 2. We are not seeing the whole report. 3. We do not know why your doc ordered it (is it because of your lymph nodes?). Your doc has to interpret this in context, talk to him/her. If you have GI symptoms, you may need an endoscopy. That is the best way to diagnose gastric CA.
