Yes: After any surgery, a ridge develops where the incision is. This is called the proud or healing ridge and slowly disappears over a four month period. In a some patients it is quite pronounced and causes concern. If you have any question about your wound, you need to see your surgeon.

Yes it is Normal: Yes, swelling after groin hernia surgery is common. Okay to ice, apply pressure and rest. Okay to check in with your surgery team. Make a post operative appointment.

Seroma: This usually occurs and i tend to see more of these when i repair these hernias laparoscopically rather than open.  This will usually resolve or improve by 6 weeks post-op.

Recurrence Unlikely: especially when repaired with mesh  ( Still a distant possibility ) , most likely some fluid collection ( serum )  under the skin flap , which will disappear in couple of wks , call your surgeon for follow up care .

Wait and see: To early to assume recurrence.  Wait untl surrounding tissues are completely healed, 4-6 weeks and then if the bulge is still there examination should determine if it is truly a recurrence or just a palpable abdominal wall weakness.
