Q: tmj ( no jaw joint damage on x-ray ) -ear symptoms for over a yr-going. now stiffness in front of ear+ stiff neck and fluttering in head.will this go?

Re-evaluate: Tmj\tmd is not something that you generally just treat and it's cured. There are many contributing factors and episodes of stress, not wearing an appliance, gum chewing, etc. Can cause ongoing symptoms. When was the last time you saw your dentist for an evaluation? Are you following all instructions? See your dentist and perhaps an ENT specialist to rule out any medical issues.

Get examination : If this has been going on for an extended period of time i would suggest that you get examined to find the reason. Most likely it just muscular in nature. It could be as gimle as the pillow you use or the position you sleep in. Try placing a towel wrapped around your neck, secured by a pin and se if the extra support stop your pain. If do then try getting a pillow with a neck contour for support.

Muscle spasm: The "crack" is muscle/ligament moving over bone.Heat and massage may help.

Not negating: You are not negating the pt effect. It is very common to be stiff in the morning if you have back troubles. I have not found a good solution for morning stiffness, although some people find that if they take a hot bath at night before bed, they do better. Also, doing some gentle stretches in bed may help. Talk with your pt.

See a neurologist: There are many types of headaches, including migraines, tension, cluster, occipital neuralgia, muscle strain, etc. Keep a log of the timing, duration, severity, and location of your episodes. Heat & exercises : Without more information,  it is not possible to  try to determine the cause of your pain. Would recommend trying an otc  NSAID along  with stretching exercises. If the pain persists then you need to see your pcp.

Mostly just time: For most muscular symptom presentations in the neck, it takes a little time to  clear.  Sometimes, this may be an initial symptom of another problem like a disc herniation but those usually resolve with time.  If you smoke, stop.  Local heat application may help as can simple stretching of the neck while showering and avoiding prolonged positioning.  Otc medication may help if no contraindications.

These are worrisome: symtoms and may represent an inflammation of the meninges. You should be evaluated by a health care provider as soon as possible to exclude meningitis. Go soon and don't delay.

Hot water: Definitely!  The Japanese knew about this centuries ago - hence their tradition of onsen.  A hot bath or shower will do wonders! Of course rest and stretching of tired muscles even with some massage thrown in can do wonders. Best to 'listen' to your body... Pain is the language it uses to tell you 'stop doing' this or that. It helps to pay attention sometimes.  Now I recommend taking it easy.
