Proper splint position is essential as poor positioning can increase siffness and prolong recovery. Hand therapy earlier than later often is   a very worthwhile investment of time and resources even if you don't think you need it..To avoid later issues.

Passive stretch: Finger stiffness is generally associated with increased fluid of the joints or tendons.  By stretching the fingers slightly beyond their normal range of motion the tendons get stretched and the ligaments of the joints give a little.  This produces relief.

Try aleve (naproxen) or advil: Try some Aleve (naproxen) or advil for a couple of weeks and see if it gets better.  If not, then you may need a blood test to determine why.

Move the finger: If you have a lot of stiffness i usually recommend a course of occupational therapy. You can do excersies on your own to get your finger moving. Just make a tight fist and squeeze then try and bring your fingers all the way straight.

It might be due to joint disease or arthritis, tendonitis, tightness in the skin or other problems. It is important to determine where the problem exists to begin to determine the cause of the sensation of stiffness.

Yes: If you get a blood clot in the arm that causes swelling in the whole arm, this can cause stiffness in the fingers. I have never seen a blood clot in the finger.
