i took the same day online std testing | stdcheck.com (http://stdcheck.com) hiv rna test 12 days after exposure. they claim 9599% accuracy at 911 days after exposure, the result was negative. can i be pretty confident with these results?

: Pretty confident, yes -- but not 95-99% as the lab claims. More like 90% for an RNA test at 9-11 dys. If it was a truly high risk exposure (e.g. anal sex with another male, vaginal sex with a known infected female), also have an AgAb (4th generation) blood test after a few weeks.

Within 2-3 weeks: also get checked for all other possible STDs if having unprotected intercourse. The gift wrapped answer is condoms if all tests are negative.

i had protected sex,after 10 days of exposure i done std testing and result for syphilis came positive and after a week i have done the same test result came negative in confirmatory test. even hiv antibody also came as negative,why it was -ve before?

: False positive results with some types of syphilis tests are quite common. For the "non-treponemal" tests (like VDRL and RPR), it happens with 1-2% of all tests done, which means thousands of time per year in the UK. It can also happen with the newer EIA tests. You can be sure you do not have syphilis (and not HIV either, if that wasn't a typo). If you're still concerned, discuss w/ your doctor.

Depends: There are lots of things that could be tested for including aids, syphyllis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitits, hpv, etc. Might need samples from mouth, vagina and anus. You can't test yourself very easily, you need swabs of body parts and blood tests to do it all. Cash paying customers frequently can get a discount. Uninsured patients might be able to get free testing from the health department.

Here are some ...: In the US, whatever approved by its FDA &amp; marketed is considered to be reasonably safe, effective, &amp; accurate although some frauds may still exist. But in comparison, that is best we can come by due to its highest transparency; of course, nothing is perfect and behind what we know always still hides a lot what we don't know. So, NAAT testing is good enough for daily use. More? Ask Doc timely.

False Positive test: HsV 1 (cold sores on the mouth) blood tests cross react with HSV 2 ( genital herpes) blood tests.  Leading to false positive tests and mental anguish .  Herpes cultures can only be done when you have a active genital herpes outbreak. Not screening.

Lupus, old age...: False-positive syphilis screens are common in older folks and especially in lupus; that's why we follow up. The herpes antibody blood tests are notoriously unreliable. Interpreting microbiology smears requires expertise; i once had to defend a bogus "child abuse" case in which a pediatrician mistook chickenpox for gonorrhea based on his ignorance interpreting a lab test.

Spec wasn't good: The specimen submitted could not be tested adequately to derive dependable results.  When a test comes back from the lab like this, it needs to be repeated.

Dept of  Health: A few places  to  check:  local department of  health, call your  local hospital,  or  look up  public  health  clinics.  Also  ask  any local  md office  for  advice  on  where to go.

Limitations: The blood tests indicate past exposure to type 1 (usually oral) or type 2 (usually genital) but do not tell you where or when.  They will also not turn positive for 2 or 3 months if exposure is recent.
