Hard to predict: Very difficult situation caused by stress of infection on weaker organs such as heart and kidneys. I think you have to play this out carefully but taking advantage of every treatment such as dialysis and treatment for the chf.

Yes, many times: While we usually only get certain infections once (for example, chickenpox), we can get many infections many times, having staph once does not do much to make us immune to it. Unfortunately it is possible to get staph infections time and time again. Even after treating sometimes it continues to live in our bodies (esp. Nasopharynx) and thus is prone to recur.

what dosage of cephalexin will help treat staph? i have 500mg. how many times a day should i take it for possible staph infection

Accepted Answer

4 times a day : If you do not have MRSA, 4 times a day should treat a staph infection.  You will know within a few days if you are on the correct medicine.  MRSA will take a different medicine, usually a sulfa based medicine will treat a community acquired MRSA (methicillin resistant staph aureus). Good healing.

how much time does it take a staph infection rash to clear up?

Depends on severity: A tiny pimple or pustule on the skin, caused by regular staph, should heal up in 3-5 days after the pus comes out. A deeper abscess may take 1 week of treatment to clear up, and another week for the remaining wound to heal. People who have internal abscesses in their bodies, or have suppressed immune systems, can take several weeks of treatment with IV antibiotics (even longer in bone infections).

i have had a staph infection twice and each time with antibiotics it has gone away. it appears it has come back, how do i get rid of this permanently  ?

Depends: Have a source within your environment where you re-colonize your body with staph. This could be another human or animal source that can carry the germs without symptoms. I would discuss this with your doc, as any further investigations can be complicated.

Antibiotics: A culture with sensitivities to various antibiotics will provide more information for your PCP to select an antibiotic which is best.
There are different types of Staph, including MRSA and the type and sensitivity pattern on a culture analysis is important information at this point. Antibacterial soap for bathing is suggested.

there was a mix up at the pharmacy. i was given desonide for a staph infection on my daughter's butt and vag. i used it many times. could it harm her?

Not really: Other than delaying specific treatment this is unlikely to cause any problems. It may actually reduce the level of irritation around the site.

i have been to the doctors multiple times for a staph infection in my armpit. it heals over and then reopens with blood and puss coming out it repeatedly. should i have a kind of gland surgery? its been packed/ given medication. 4yrs nothing works?

Hidradenitis?: Staph can behave this way; you could be a staph carrier. An infectious diseases specialist might try treating you with long-term antibiotics. Also maybe test for certain immune system deficiencies that lead to staph infections. Or maybe you have hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic infection-like syndrome that doesn't respond to antibiotics. See a dermatologist as well as ID specialist. Good luck.

It is acne: Staph infection will bother you much more. Avoid shaving close. Try OTC benzoyl peroxide. You may wish to consult a dermatologist.

what is the healing time with staph infection after open heart surgery?

Accepted Answer

Depends: It depends on how deep the infection is; a superficial infection can often be cleared in a couple of weeks.  The deeper the infection, the longer the antibiotic course/risk of complications.  The other variable would be if this is a mssa or a MRSA infection, and the choice of antibiotic.
