i have hsv 2 and am having stabbing pain in my labia, left buttock, down the back of my leg and into my ankle. never had pain like this before. cause?

Herpes simplex: It would be very unusual to have nerve involvement of the type you are describing due to hsv 2.  This sounds as if you have some other issue involving the sacral spine at s1-s2 which would cover the dermatomes you are describing.  It is conceivable that this is the focus of infection with herpes, but rather uncommon. Suggest seeing a neurologist.

Hernia? Muscle pain?: These symptoms make me wonder whether you might have a hernia. Or maybe just a pulled muscle? On and off pain like this probably isn't due to UTI or any other infection. See a gynecologist. Good luck.

Muscle spasm?: It sounds like it could be muscle spasm.  Apply heat to the area.  Try using otc nsaids.  Get a massage.  If all that fails your pcp can prescribe a muscle relaxer for you.

Pleuritic chest pain: It sounds like you have pleuritic chest pain, and given that it is severe, you should probably be seen by a doctor. A possible cause that I am considering in a 25 year-old woman is pleurisy related to a viral infection. There are other more serious possibilities, such as a small pneumothorax or pleural effusion. Your doctor will gather more information and maybe send labs and a chest xray.

Muscle spasm: When you run, you use the 3 layers of muscles in your abdomen.  These flat muscles, when used, can "spasm" or contract very vigorously.  This causes a sharp stabbing burning pain, a lot like a charley horse in the calf (also a muscle spasm).  If this happens to you, stop running, rub firmly right on the stabbing painful area, and the muscle will relax; just like when you rub your calf.  Good luck!
