Ophthalmologist: Your eye symptoms warrant an examination by an ophthalmologist. Floaters are often benign and a nuisance,but showers of them can be serious. I'm concerned about left eye pain and visual disturbance.

i have been experiencing severe headaches and was given elavil to see if it wold help me. i have recently started having stabbing pain behind my left eye and it is getting increasingly worse. i also have a stabbing sensation in my cheek bone?

More symptoms?: The medicine elavil (amitriptyline) is helpful for preventing several types of headaches.  You should not expect the medicine would cause stabbing pain behind your eye or in your cheek.  Are these on the same side?  It would help to know if you had any evaluation or tests for your headache, there are some causes that elavil (amitriptyline) cannot treat.

Eye pain: Do you have any sinus pain or pressure?  Any drainage?  If so it could be related to the sinuses.  If not then I would get your eyes checked.  Maybe you are squinting and it is causing an ocular headache.  See an ophthalmologist if this is the case.  If it is sinus related see an ear nose and throat doctor.

From many causes: Sharp pain like stabbing can be due to lot of causes, and it can be serious, you should consult an opthalmologist asap.It may be something benign especially if you do not have any other symptoms such as vision loss or problem, dizziness, headache, naosea or vomiting.And associted with other medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension etc.But still you need to see eye md to rule out serious conditions.

Pain in eye: Can be due to multiple reasons. Sudden pain not lasting more than a few minutes could be from the cornea which has a dense nerve supply: dry eyes, foreign body corneal abrasion, dry eyes. It is best to check with your Ophthalmologiar specially if the pain recurs or lastsonger. Associated signs are blinking, blurred vision, watering eyes and redness. Hope this helps.

Needs checking: I pain and a vision change could be a variety of causes. The best and simplest is to see an ophthalmologist and have an intra ocular pressure test to rule out glaucoma. That is a treatable condition that can cause vision loss. They can also see in there is any inflammation, retinal changes and infection present. I would go today.
