RICE: Rest, ice, compression, elevate
compression isn't the easiest on a toe, but rest, ice and elevate for a couple days are usually all that are needed for a toe.  If not better in a couple days or if it's getting worse, see your doctor - i've discovered fractured toes a couple times when they didn't heal as quickly as a sprain should have.

Ouch: Usually one would expect to see swelling, pain, possibly redness and warmth to the area, and possibly deformity of the toe. If you suspect a fracture or sprain see a foot specialist for an x-ray and diagnosis.

1-2 weeks: Often after a sprain, ice therapy is most critical within the first 3 days but I often recommend ice especially in the evenings if swelling and pain are still persistent past 72 hours. Sprains depending on severity can take several days to several weeks to completely heal.

Bone break: Strain refers to soft tissue derangement (tendon, ligament, and or muscle,  while fracture means the bone has been broken. The break does NOT need to be separated, as a crack,in the bone is still a break, as is separating a tendon attached to bone.

Very little: Whether broken or sprained, an injury to the little toe is treated with conservative measures: taping, wearing stiff soled shoes to prevent bending, and taking some over the counter anti-inflammatories.  What you get out of the xray is a prognosis: you'll know how long it takes to heal. A week or so for a sprain, 3 weeks or so for a fracture.

Not normal: It's a bit unusual to get numbness and tingling in toes(paresthesias)because of a sprained ankle. It may occur if the ankle has been wrapped with an ace bandage that is pulled too tight causing pressure on some of the nerves going to the toes.  Or possibly it could be due to a more severe injury than just a sprain. Like a fracture.

Loosen the ace bandage. If it persists see a specialist ASAP!

Maybe: Sprains cause swelling and pain which could limit movement.
