how can i tell the difference between chest muscle pain or heart pain? they are so close together i am having a hard time distinguishing them apart.

Distinguishing Pain: Muscle related chest pain is  sharp reproducible either by pressure or by arm movements or applying load to concerned muscle ( tightening or contracting muscle. Heart related pain . Is usually vague achiness and usually worsens with exertional activity. There is usually feeling of breathlessness with exertion.  Hope that helps. In most chest pain cases it is best to see a physician  right away.

my pharmacist consult me to take mobic (meloxicam) meloxicam to reduce my chest muscle pain/pulled.is that drug dangerous and has severe side effects?

See your PCP: for proper diagnosis, tests and treatment. Any medication can cause side effects and Mobic is no exception. Nevertheless, meloxicam is more potent against COX-2 and is more favorable to the GI system than other nonselective NSAIDs.

can sleep problems cause chronic chest muscle pain?i snore very badly. i am waiting on results from sleep study. all heart tests are normal. thanks.

I expect so: I'm glad your heart work-up was normal and that you'll be treated for whatever the sleep study finds. It's a prime suspect for the soreness and you'll discover that soon if it is guilty. Consider a carefully planned exercise program to develop your chest muscles with the guidance of the sleep team. I believe they'll know of a good one. Best!

has right side chest muscle pain.  my doc says it is due to muscle strain.  more than 4 weeks and it is still there.taking tylenol (acetaminophen).  any advice?

Get an X-Ray: Try advil or Aleve (naproxen) for 10 days, if still hurts get an xray done to rule out rib fracture.

Not necessarily: Pleurisy is a viral infection that affects the lining of the chest cavity causing inflammation and irritation. The pain during inspiration is caused by the expanding lung touching the irritated chest cavity. Usually these symptoms will go away on their own as the virus clears the system. Rx meds are not necessarily needed. Can use Motrin to treat the inflammation and relieve the irritation.

Acute or chronic: If you have a history that caused an overuse, like lifting, pushing, pulling, etc, it may be in response to that.  If this has been going on for a while, then it could be from old injuries, but in a 31 year old, arthritis or heart issues would be uncommon, but worthwhile being evaluated by your family doctor or a musculoskeletal specialist.

what is the best test to check  if i have torn chest  muscles after an asthma that left me with severe persistent muscle pain for months?

Exam: Although costochrondritis (inflammation of the rib joints) can happen, asthma attack does not cause torn muscles.  Suggest that you see your doctor and get examined if the pain is unbearable since it may be from something more serious or merely a transient problem which will heal in a few weeks.

i have muscle pain on left side of my upper body,  including chest area even though i didn't engage in any strenuous exercise. heartbeat is normal.

Get checked...: If worse with movement of muscle, it's probably musculo-skeletal related but really pain in chest should never be treated lightly. Consider getting a checkup asap if this is persisting.
