Yes: Sprains in various joints are usually treated similarly. For the foot arch, some rest is important, so one should avoid over-using the foot until it improves. Cold packs can help decrease inflammation. Some people roll an ice-cold can of soda back and forth with the bottom of the foot. Anti-inflammatories (motrin) can be taken a few days. Adding an insole such as superfeet will support the arch.

Varies: There are a number of possible causes, from a more severe injury to the plantar fascia to a n injury to the joints of the midfoot, to even a stress fracture.  Don't hesitate to be seen and evaluated.

i sprained my right ankle about 30 years ago and since then when my foot would be in the same position for a certain amount of time it would crack loud when i moved it downward. now i get a sharp pain in the center of my arch before it cracks. ?

Navicular: In some people, a prominent bony lump "near the arch" is often the medial aspect of the navicular bone.  Enlargement of this bone is not uncommon.  Have it evaluated by a podiatrist to find out exactly what is going on.

my wife sprained her foot, someone laded on her heel with her toes tucked underneath..i think she hyperextended her arch. she has bruising and it still hurts. day one she iced for four hours, day two and three she iced for an hour or so....it is day 4. sh

After : After the first 24 hours, icing usually doesn't do all that much.

I'm always astounded by the number of people who would rather pursue advice on line than actually get to a doctor and be properly evaluated.  Almost all the posts by doctors here usually end with "go to a doctor and get it checked out."

the danger of giving medical advice without taking a medical history and performing a proper physical examination, and of course, not actually seeing the patient, is that we stand a good chance at giving wrong, misleading or potentially harmful advice, and that's the last thing we want to do.

Now please forgive me if i'm being presumptuous here in assuming you haven't already sought medical care for your wife, and this is merely a back-up plan to pick some medical minds.  I make this assumption only because you didn't mention it in your post.

Clearly, the best advice i, or anyone, can give you is to bring her to a podiatrist or orthopedist, have her foot x-rayed, and find out exactly what's going on.  The sooner this happens, the sooner she's apt to get better.

Hurt tendon: it means that the tendons in your feet are chronically stressed and swollen due to the anatomic abnormality of excess long term pronation. Consider orthotics

Foot injury: This may take more time to heal and maybe trying a walking boot for pain relief. Another option is to get a MRI to evaluate for ligament injury.

chronic ankle pain from old grade 3 sprain. doctor noted i've flat feet, high arch palete, hypermobility. i had recent surgery and developed a haematoma. why would i be referred me to rhuematologist to rule out all being connected?

: There are a number of syndromes associated with high arched palate and it would be prudent to rule out such systemic disorders.

No: Exercising on a sprained foot could lead to improper healing and cause more issues.  Wait until the healing time is over for weight bearing exercises and you will be better off.  Best wishes!
