Orthotics: changes in your walk after the injury might be the cause. Get an evaluation from your local podiatrist. Foot orthotics aimed at re-aligning your gait may help before resorting to surgery

i fell down the stairs back in april . i am still having ankle pain . i am seeing a physical therapist and he said i have a high ankle sprain . i am not sure what to do for it ?

: I am assuming you have had an x-ray to make sure there is no fracture. Since you are still having pain, you should see the orthopedic doctor again to see if a repeat X-ray or an MRI might be helpful. Sometimes, a fracture doesn’t show on x-ray right away. If it is a sprain, continuing PT will be helpful. Hope you feel better real soon!

Exam/x-ray: to rule out chip fracture. You will need an ankle support and if severe, crutches or a walking shoe or cast. See an orthopedic expert.

PT then reevaluation: Most ankle sprains injure the outer ankle ligaments(inversion injury). The pain last1-6 weeks. If after 12 weeks with time and physical therapy pain persists , particularly if it it on the inner aspect an orthooedic re-evaluation is necessary. Ther emay be an occult fracture there, tendon or nerve injury as part of the original injury. Often a MRI or ct scan may help diagnose the problem.

: The benefit to rehabilitating an ankle injury properly is so you can protect yourself from reinjuring  the ankle again. Now I would see proper medical attention X-rays and proper rehab. See a MD, DO, podiatrist

Many possibilities: If the pain returned in the ankle itself, your pain may be related to a thickened tissue formed in the lining of the ankle in response to the injury or cartilage damage sustained in the initial injury. If the pain is along the inside arch or bottom of the foot you may be experiencing plantar fasciitis. You should seek orthopedic evaluation to confirm the diagnosis and treatment.

: This likely just represents a broken blood vessel under the skin producing a transient bruise. It will fade in a week or so. It is unlikely to alter the function. Muscles get sprained, not this tissue, but trauma and overuse has similar impact.

: If I understand correctly you have a history of a bad sprain to your ankle. However you are experiencing muscle soreness and tightness to the calf muscle. First off a Cortizone injection to the ankle joint will not help this problem. It sounds the ankle joint is not the problem. You need to stretch and strengthen the calf muscle. A Physical Therapist can instruct you and help you with this

Sprained: If you sprain it easily or frequently you have chronic lateral ankle instability if this was one time did you get it checked? If not i suggest you do. In mean time try rest, ice, compression and elevation.
