i have a herniated disc & my surgeon told me to stop my sports activities & take 4 months therapy but i wanted to know why do i have to stop playing if i felt no pain while playing , & right now while i'm only taking therapy i feel a lot of pain ?

is there difference between an sports medicine doctor and orthopedic surgeon?

Sports Med v Ortho: A sports med doctor does not have to be an orthopedic surgeon.  Anyone can put that name on their door, even a chiropractor. An orthopedic surgeon goes through a 5 year residency and most of us have also done a fellowship.  I did a one year sports medicine fellowship after my residency.  

Be wary of titles.

Disc: Its got to do with how the pressure affects the herniation - Staying in one position causes more pressure in one area resulting in more herniation. Moving around like when playing sport constantly transfers the weight distribution around so it is never in the same spot for too long. However the sport playing does cauase more injury and that is why it huts you more when resting - he is right -do pt

six weeks postop for a massive cam decompression/tiny labral tear. still having 5-8/10 pain. both surgeon and sports med md say its normal. thoughts?

Possibly: The surgery you are describing involves bone and cartilage.  Bone healing typically takes a minimum of 6-8 weeks to heal and can take up to 12. There are also a lot of muscles in the surrounding area that will require re-strengthening. You are in the middle of your recovery phase. Try to be patient and trust the advise of your physician.  If it were 6 months and still having this pain then worry.

i hurt my finger during sport. my ring index finger popped out of its spot at the halfway knuckle area. i pulled it back into place. x-ray shows chip fracture. visited a surgeon , he advised it will heal within 4 weeks. it's been nearly 10 weeks.help?

Immobilization: Even small non displaced fractures can be difficult to heal unless immobilized properly. Easy way to immobilize fingers is to strap them  together with simple tape.
You can change the taap as needed. Follow up with your hand orthopedic surgeon and see occupational therapist.

However, i would probably started with other trusted medical professionals with whom you are acquainted and then schedule 2-3  consultations to discuss your desires, concerns and candidacy for the procedure as well as a good personality fit. Finally you may want to confirm with online reviews but be cautious.

could a surgeon administer chemotheraphy?

Yes: Surgical Oncologists frequently do but usually when the drug is given orally and easily purchased by prescription. When iV meds are needed the patient is usually kept in a special chair while the chemo is run slowly over a few hrs.  Most surgical offices are not equipted to deliver drugs in this manner.
