After rehabilitation: It depends on your symptoms. If the spondylolysis is acute, a period of rest, perhaps bracing may let the bones heal. If chronic, exercise and therapy may reduce or eliminate the pain so that you can resume sports and other activities.

Yes: Most of the time, yes. If you have nerve symptoms (numbness, weakness, tingling) or severe pain you should see a doctor.

Accepted Answer

Fairly common: And is caused by a genetic defect in one of the parts of the vertebral bone allowing the vertebra to slip.  This is genetic (you were born with the defect) and you did not cause it.  Mostly bad luck.  That's probably what the docs are telling you.  Many people live with this with no problems whatsoever.  Others learn to cope with strengthening exercises (yoga), safe pain relief, and good posture.

Neither: it is genetically determined, however, if really coarse features develop and are problematic, an endocrinologist may help check some hormonal levels, kind of very rare though, wish you well

Not sure: Can you be more specific? Do you mean the psychological stress of competition? Physical stress? What is causing you to feel stressed?

Accepted Answer

Several reasons: Depends on where you get them and if any other symptoms or underlying condition. Simple muscle spasms can be due to tight or deconditioned tendons and muscles, lack of hydration or electrolytes. Sometimes it can be a secondary, reactive issue due to an underlying problem such as nerve irritation.

Alot: Any type of aerobic activity is good for weight loss. You have to also remember to monitor your weight and intake.  Your metabolism can be tricky when you begin to workout and you have to supply your body with the proper nutrients to continue to burn calories or run risk of going into a storage mode.  Swimming is very good as  both aerobic and anaerobic activity.

Depends on sport: Reinforcement or protection of your ankle would depend on the most likely injury from a specific sport.  Wrestling can be supported with simple ace bandage type of ankle wrap.  Football could vary depending on the position,  track and field also would vary or have no support

Accepted Answer

Depends: This depends on many factors.  This includes what part of your arm was broken as an example was it the shaft  was it a part of your joint. How was it treated with cast immobilization or surgery. How far out are you from your injury and healing. In general i tell my patients that they may resume contact sports 4 to 6 weeks after removal of their cast or brace.  Again this is a complicated question i would refer you back to your provider to answer this.
