: Consult a podiatrist for evaluation &amp; advice. Perhaps you're traumatizing your nails with polish remover,certain soaps,footwear. Diseases like psoriasis, thyroid disorders,rheumatoid arthritis, nutritional deficiencies are some other possible causes. In the.meantime you may try applying clear nail polish to protect the cracks but I'd rather have the podiatrist advise you.

What color:  what color do you see? If it's vascular we could be purple or blue. Other colors may depend another medical conditions. We need to discuss this with your physician to be sure there's nothing else systemically going on medically.

Treatment can be oral medication, topical antifungual medicine, laser treatment or permanent removal of the nail. Reocuurance is common.
