Do you smoke?: This can happens to smokers, or someone who stopped smoking couple weeks ago.  If tub workmen really polluted area. Black can also mean blood, did you have any other health problems?

been smoking marijuana & tobacco since a decade now.since last year after smoking im spitting black phlegm.it started with small specks and now its full blown chunks. got a chest x-ray , the dr said my chest looks fine.please advice im worried?

Stop smoking: Your worries are legitimate and best would be to stop smoking at least for a trial. If your sputum/secretions clear up you will know what you have to do. Chest X-rays have limited resolution and do not rule out chronic bronchitis among many other lung conditions.

Blood in mucus: Probably small amounts of blood coming from your throat or your sinuses. Sounds like you are very ill. Might be best to see a physician and get some meds and advice so you will get better. Good luck!

: Many issues. Unclear  for how long the symptoms have been going on. If you are new to high altitude you can experience headache and upper respiratory symptoms  as there is a syndrome called high altitude sickness. F/U/w MD today

Brown phlegm: If you do not smoke you may have the start of an infection.  If it worsens and occurs more frequently or is associated with a fever or chills see your doctor or an urgent care.  Mucous that is colored may suggest an infection.  Most of the time it is a virus and just requires watchful waiting.  Drink lots of fluids and eat well.  You may want to irrigate the nose with saline 50 cc each side 3-4x/d

Second hand smoke: Your exposure may be causing you to have chronic bronchitis and your lungs are clearing out the particulates you're inhaling. You could also have asthma and the phlegm is related to that. Ask the smokers to smoke outside and never in the car.
