Yes: Yes sitting long periods of time can inflame a lumbar region that as severe spinal stenosis.  The pain in your hip and groin can be from aggravated nerve roots.  You can try McKenzie Back exercises.  If it doesn't resolve, then seek medical evaluation.   Back pain that causes numbness around rectum, foot immobility or bladder incontinence needs immediate attention.

how is hip arthritus diagnosed? just had surgery, spinal stenosis. had a burning feeling in my left leg, still experience a lot of pain. dr informed me without taking any further test that is is arthritus? is this pissible?

Hip arthritis : Hip arthritis is diagnosed by the history (what the patient describes about his complaints and health), physical examination and imaging (X-ray, MRI or CT scan)  and sometimes blood testing.

: Spinal stenosis does not cause whole body symptoms. It usually is from the level down. what you are describing would seem to be at the brain level. I would suggest an evaluation with a neurologist.

May be spinal stenos: This  numbness may be from the spinal stenosis. If it is new  you will need to do neurological testing and imaging with MRI to see if there are new neurological lesions

1 of the symptoms-: -is painful when walking. The usual distance you were able to walk gets shorter as time goes by. You have to stop &amp; rest more often. The coldness can be associated with it also. I am assuming you mean the lumbar spine.

: First, to sort out and objectify arm symptoms, an EMG/ NCS would help.  Second, yes, you should have an opinion from a neurologist or a neurosurgeon.  Third, you may be best handled conservatively with physical therapy.

Accepted Answer

Not usually: A fentanyl patch is absorbed through the subcutaneous tissue in the area it is applied and then it circulates through the body and creates systemic affects of pain relief.  It's action is primarily not at the site at which it is applied but is mediated more centrally.  There is no benefit placing the patch near where the actual pain is located.
