Local: With deep sedation might work, but i wouldn't recommend it. Your best bet is a light general. If you are in adequately sedated and uncomfortable, then it can be difficult for the surgeon and increase the likelihood of complications.

Not painful: Most times when we do spinal anesthesia we provide IV sedation to the patient before we even begin. The patient is usually sitting up on the side of the bed. The back is cleaned with a sterile solution, and then a small amount of local anesthetic is placed at the skin. This is the part that "hurts", that is to say there is a small bee sting at the skin. Then the spinal is done. Minimal pain noted.

It has rapid onset, provides profound surgical anesthesia and causes loss of muscle control below the blok level. Epidural- local anes is administered in the epidural space outside of the membrane which contains the spinal fluid through a catheter  slower, but titrateable.

Follow instructions: We used to tell patients to lie flat for 6 hours after spinal anesthesia, but now we know that doesn't help prevent a headache. You may resume activity according to the surgeon's instructions, depending on what type of surgery you had. No need to lie flat; just rest when you feel tired, and lie in whatever position is most comfortable for you.  Drink plenty of liquids.

Local anesthetic/nar: It is usually local antsthetics like bupivacaine or, ropivacaine with or without narcotics like fentanyl, morphine etc.  Low dose in spinals and higher dose in epidurals.

It is not uncommon: During and immediately after a spinal, to have difficulty with bladder emptying. However, it should not cause any long term problems.

Yes: The number 1 treatment for spinal headaches is caffeine and fluids. Between this and lying down, most spinal headaches resolved in a few days.  If your headache does not get better in a few days, your doctor may recommend a “blood patch”. This involves injecting a couple of ounces of your own blood into the epidural space to form a clot over the small tear from the spinal injection.
