Spider bite: Seek medical care asap if you think a spider bit you ; you have severe pain (can be felt at bite site ; possible chest, back or abdomen); abdominal cramping /rigidness or ulceration of skin at site. You may need a tetanus shot (if you don't know when your last shot was or it has been &gt; 10 years). Also medical care if you develop signs of secondary infection.  Clean area w antibacterial soap.

Antivenom: There is a specific Phoneutria spider anti-venom.  But only 2.3% of bites require anti-venom since they have small fangs. Their bites to humans usually don't lead to envenomization.

Time: Most spider bites cause only a small local allergic reaction. If this is all it is some anitbiotic ointment a bandaid and time (1 to 2 days) and it should be fine. If it  looks like it is getting infected ( increasing redness, pain or not improving) you should see your doctor. Only a small minority of spider bites cause infection or serious skin injury.

Spider bite: First aid treatment is cleaning the area with soap & water, apply a cool compress on the area, take tylenol/antihistamines, & if it was black widow spider or brown recluse spider, seek medical attention fast.

See an MD: Get urine tested for blood, if present will need some attention. Topical nitroglycerine paste (rx also) may reduce necrosis. Get some help w/wound care.

The best way to treat such a spider bite is to prevent being bitten. If you are bitten, get to your doctor right away for possible injection of cortisone right into the bite area, or  take oral prednisone, and  be given other local care.

Antigen response: The true response to a brown recluse bite is severe reaction to a foreign protein. It frequently gets infected also. So, the recommended treatment by a trained physician, is an antibiotic, an anti lepromatous medication and a steroid pack.. This can be a serious problem requiring hospitalization, particularly in a child. Complications such as kidney failure can occur.

Depends: Different spiders cause different reactions.
For less toxic spider bite, which are the most common, it usually takes 7-10 days.
To decrease pain and swelling, I have found the use of orally administered steroids to lessen pain and swelling.

Several treatments: Recluse bite treatment ranges from essentially local care with cleaning and topical antibiotic ointment to taking oral antibiotics to requiring surgical treatment, hyperbaric oxygen treatment and other more aggressive treatments.  There are degrees of envenomation and local tissue response.  If you are concerned or if in a critical location (face, genitals, around eye, etc) see md immediately.

Spider bites: Spider bites are usually painful rather than itchy due to venom. Some spiders, like brown recluse ones, cause severe pain and extensive skin damage. Your bites apparently don't fit into this category. Keep the areas clean and dry and apply antibacterial ointment like bacitracin daily. If spreading redness or skin breakdown develop see a physician or a wound specialist. Antivenin not feasable.
