my outer elbow is sore on left side and left ring and pinky finger stay numb. its not the ulnar side elbow that hurts. is there anything serious that can cause this? what could it be?

: It sounds like you are experiencing discomfort around your left elbow associated with numbness in the same side pinky and ring finger.  The nerve that controls sensation for the pinky and ring finger is the ulnar nerve.  The most common locations where people may experience irritation to this nerve is at the wrist and elbow.  I would suggest bringing this up with your primary and/or a neurologist.

i had medial epicondylar release/ ulnar nerve decompression 5/9/14. when i woke up from it i had a sore throat still have a sore throat? i'mconcerned?

Sore throat: You just had surgery and if you were fully sedated you were intubated and post surgery I've had many complain of sore throat related to the intubation. Warm tea , throat lozenges help. If persists go see your doc

i found a really tender spot over the ulnar fovea. what does this mean?

Trauma to the areas?: This might be the result of a trauma. Any movement cause pain?
If persist might need a xray.

had ulnar nerve transposition 11 months ago, still tingles and is tender sometimes.  got an ncv 8 months ago with really positive results.is it normal?

Accepted Answer

It can be normal.: Since the nerve is moved or transposed at surgery, the traditional methods of testing (ncv) the nerve may be limited in reliability. Tenderness could be indicative of coexisting issues. The degree of nerve injury preoperatively will partly determine the eventual outcome. Nevertheless, full recovery may take up to 2 years or may never occur.

i have minor ulnar nerve damage at elbow. the injury occurred june 2014. i still have aching and numbness. should i be concerned???

UNCLEAR IF HEALING: So called cubital tunnel syndrome symptoms may suggest slow healing of ulnar nerve, and even may raise questions of localized inflammation or scarring which may prevent  resolution.  An EMG test can objectify the process, and point the way to successful outcome.  But be aware that surgery in the end may be the best option.

See Ortho: I would visit the orthopedic surgeon who performed the surgery. 3 and 1/2 months is usually adequate to heal enough to be pain-free. Is it possible that you may have reinjured it somehow?

Symptom relief: Yes, gabapentin can suppress nerve pain, but this is purely symptomatic relief, without any affect upon recovery or cure.  Since your problem just began, there is an excellent chance of improvement over next 3-4 weeks.  If numbness persists, at that point an EMG test could guide further intervention.

whats a good way to defeat soreness?

Short rest: Soreness is the body's response to physical activity which it is not accustomed too. It generally disappears over time, with a short period of resting the involved muscle. If its severe, low dose anti inflammatory meds and icing can help. If part of an exercise regimen, resume the activity in a few days, so u can continue to strengthen the muscle and prevent soreness in the future.

Need meds.: Post-herpetic neuralgia (phn) is the $3 phrase for residual pain after rash from shingles resolves. Unfortunately, this may last for days to months. It is best managed with medications for chronic pain (gabapentin as one example), prescribed by your doctor. Topical nonsteroidals (like "aspercreme") or pain-distracting (like "zostrix") may help, if appropriate for your case.
