i developed a sore throat the day after painting the inside of a home. the area was not super well ventilated, so i'm wondering if the sore throat is related to the fumes from the indoor paint? what can i do to relieve the sore throat?

: Maybe/not. This could be an inhalant exposure or an unrelated new illness. Using throat lozenges or gargling with salt water may quell any emerging symptoms. If they increase over time with no re-exposure, consider it an infection and get checked if needed.

Wait few days: Take zyrtec (cetirizine) 10 mg daily for 2 weeks. Gargle with good mouth wash will help.

Yes: Inhaling spray paint fumes causes irritation to the lining of the airway, and that includes giving you a sore throat as well as lung and nose symptoms. You may also have eye irritation, headaches, nausea, vomiting. There are long term effects as well.

Guaifenesin: Use Mucinex or Robitussin (guaifenesin) and a vaporizer to help loosen the phlegm.  Go see a doctor if no better in a few days.

Though it seems: possible, it is not likely.  Unless you somehow ingested the paint, inhaling paint fumes should not cause a sore throat.  Sometimes you can get asthma or reactive airway disease from inhaling paint fumes.  You likely have sore throat from a viral or bacterial infection.  Take some ibuprofen and if things get worse, see a healthcare provider for proper examination and diagnosis.

COVID 19: If you are in South Africa, seek medical provider consultation who will determine if COVID 19 testing is appropriate. In the US testing policies vary by states. Rest, hydrate, quarantine &amp; eat healthfully. Consider use of acetaminophen, saline for nasal irrigation, decongestant or cough syrup. Get urgent care for difficulty breathing, blue lips, marked persistent chest pain or new onset confusion.

Sore throat: Please have someone take you to the nearest Emergency facility.
An alternative would be to go to the Pharmacy and see if they can recommend a medicine you can buy over the counter. Right now that would be my preference!

Soothing measures: To sooth the irritation from a breathing tube, try a mild cough suppressant to decrease the hacking cough that often accompanies the irritation. The more you cough, the more you irritate the windpipe.

Time: This is a very common...Even normal occurance.  It can take several weeks for your voice to return to normal.  Occasionally even speech therapy can be helpful.  If your symptoms are not resolving after a few weeks an ENT doc can be helpful to take a look at your throat.

Several possibilitie: Sounds like you're worried about infection.. Possible, especially if you have fever.  Swollen red spots it tissue in back of throat could be infection.  Also acid reflux from stomach could produce similar symptoms w/out fever.  If it's the latter expect more frequent symptoms.  There is relatively goo d treatments for this problem--and treatment is good idea to prevent complications,
