Ice or heat: If muscles/joints are swollen, we use ice to calm inflammation; gradually we switch to heat to increase circulation to areas & relieve pain. Sore throats, especially when accompanied by fever, may be treated with popcicles to numb discomfort & reduce fever.

Accepted Answer

Very similar symptom: "colds" and "flu"s are both viral infections that have very similar symptoms as you described - both cause stuffy nose and sore throat and muscles and even fevers.  Both should also resolve in 2-5 days.  The "flu" that the flu shot prevents is "influenza a or b" - which is much more aggressive  - causing sudden onset of very high fevers and muscle aches to the point of unable to get out of bed...

Rash: This is concerning if the rash and bruising occured with the infection, you should go see your doctor, sooner than later.

Neck pain: Likely a muscle strain,get an OTC soft neck collar till better,if worsening pain then a physical exam and direct muscle relaxants  might become appropriate

Streph Throat Test: Possibly streph throat or a viral infection. For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician & get a streph throat test. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications.
Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.  Add honey & a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile >>.

Doctor can evaluate: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a common cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other infection or cause such as allergies or irritants. A person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat or other infections).

See below: Did symptoms hit you suddenly? Fever? Feel like you've been run over by a truck a few times. Weak, no energy? May be influenza, which usually resolves in 7-10 days. If not, see doc because bacterial infections can occur on top of flu. Otc theraflu helps with many symptoms. Gargle with warm salt water. Rest. Drink plenty of fluids. Get flu shot this fall (unless allergic to them).

Seretide: Can cause a sore throat, which is best treated by drinking enough water after using the inhaler. It does not usually give systemic symptoms that you describe but everyone is different, you may want to discuss your symptoms with your doctor.

when i move my tongue backwards i get a sore throat sensation. 
the surface at the back of my tongue is hard. is this an anxiety issue? muscle issue?

Hard Tongue: Anything on the tongue that is hard should really be evaluated.  Best to be done by an ENT specialist who can perform the appropriate tests or even do a biopsy, if one is needed.

returned home from a relaxing week vacation & immediately developed sxs of sore throat, muscle aches, headache, malaise. any connection to air travel?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: It is my understanding that planes use recycled air. Additionally, people are in close proximity on an air plane & the air is dry. So depending on how long after the plane travel you developed the symptoms, this may be related. It is easy to catch a viral infection with this scenario. Take care.
