root canal 2 weeks ago.  now jaw pain and clicking  sound on the same side as root canal.  some soreness/throbbing to tooth and gums.  is this normal?

Accepted Answer

Many Issues: TMJ "clicking" when opening and/or closing is not directly due to the root canal therapy. Keeping your mouth opened wide during the procedure may be the problem. Pain around the tooth or joint? Soreness around the tooth should be investigated by your treating dentist.

Multiple symptoms: You can either research hundreds of possibilities over the internet and sites like this or see your primary care physician as soon as possible for a proper diagnosis and treatment. I would recommend the second.

See your dentist: It isn't unusual to be sore but return to your dentist to reevaluate the area.

Comorbidity: Two separate conditions. 1. Rec.:  swollen gums can be a sign that you are at risk for, or already have, gum disease. See a dentist for evaluation and treatment.
2. Seasonal flu is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. If concerned, see your pcp.

2 months after oral have soft bump on hard pallate, painful. bumps above tonsil. have hpv shot. clear fluid bubbles on gums occasionally. hoarse voice and itchy throat. not infection(been tested) jaw pain+ear ache drainage on throat frequently?

Not HPV: HPV doesn't cause any of the symptoms you describe. Allergies, viral infections, and other things (mostly not serious) are the likely causes. See your doctor if the symptoms continue.

TMJ pain to upper ba: Your TMJ involves more than your jaw. The joint on each side of your skull is in the temporal bone, which attaches to other bones and muscles including ones in your neck and back. There's also a small bone under your jaw, hyoid, with muscles to the t as well as to the shoulder blade (omohyoid muscle). See your dentist or another TMJ specialist.

Best to call office: Of oral surgeon who removed your tooth.  We all have either answering services, or in my case i also contact my patients the night of surgery & also give them my cell # for such situations. Could be pain that is within normal limits, could be pain from infection, could be pain from dry socket. TMD: When "everything hurts". Rule out the obvious tooth, gum, or sinus infection. Then begin to look at TMJ or joint and muscle pain. Clenching can be a big culprit.  Then there are less obvious conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia and on and on.
