can canker sores on the gum by the base of the tooth cause tooth pain? it doesn't hurt to chew, it's just a dull tooth ache in the area by the sore.

Accepted Answer

Yes: It can be hard to precisely map the source of pain.
Fortunately canker sores resolve on their own within 2 weeks.  If no improvement or worsening your dentist can check for other causes of gum disease.

Trauma: May be periodontal ligament sprain, fractured tooth root/alveolar process, devitalization of tooth, traumatic occlusion, etc. Please see your Dentist to evaluate for mobility, discoloration, displacement, vitality, etc.  In the meantime, do not bite into anything directly, cut food up small and insert into molar area.  Nothing too hot or too cold. Take Ibuprofen to help control swelling.

RCT needed?: The presence or absence of pain does not necessarily indicate the need for RCT. One can require RCT on a tooth even though an x-ray does not substantiate the need. The bottom line: The need for RCT may require a number of tests, observations and history of symptoms and cannot be determined over the internet. See your own dentist or an Endodontist to determine whether or not it is indicated.

Go see your dentist: For pain take Ibuprofen 600mg every 4-6 hours.  Do not take it if you have kidney problem or if you are pregnant.  Go to your dentist right the way! you may need antibiotics as well.

how can i get relief for teeth pain and cut up gums from braces?

Lots of ways: Take 1 200mg  Ibuprofen w meal or big glass of liquid (breakfast, lunch, dinner, before bed).  Rinse 3x/day w 1tsp salt in 8oz warm water...Swish, spit out, 'till glass is empty.  Dry the "sticker" and cover it with orthodontic wax...Ask your orthodontist for some.  Dab orabase-b onto the sores pots w a qtip.  Keep mouth clean.  Eat protein. Be patient, the soreness will subside in just a few days.

Many causes: tooth abscesses, periodontal( gum) abscesses, are most common causes.
There other less common causes but you need evaluation ASAP!

Dental care: You need to see a dentist right away. The broken teeth may have infections and the severe pain around your lower teeth indicates major issues. Don't delay

Pain: It is often difficult for a patient to determine the actual cause of the pain. Tooth pain may feel like gum pain and vice versa.
