One side head pain: These could be migraine headaches. Migraines have pain on one side of the head, nausea or vomiting and sensitivity to light. Migraine headaches are usually severe. This is also a common area to get tension headaches or muscle headaches. I usually start my patients on over the counter medications for these headaches. Check with your doctor if you can take medications such as ibuprofen or Tylenol.

Preterm: Contractions and pelvic pain do not necessarily mean that you are in labor.  Labor is defined as having regular contractions with interval cervical change.  You are in your last trimester, so pelvic pressure and discomfort would be common as the baby moves into position for labor.  Having said this, most babies over 34 weeks who are delivered early do well in terms of survival and overall health.

It is a muscular tightening of the uterus. Contractions are timed from beginning to end of hardening of the uterus (duration) and from beginning of one contraction until the beginning of the next (frequency). A third descriptor is intensity or how hard or painful the contraction.

Not really: Most obs want to know approximately how far apart the contractions are.  For example, "i have been having contractions 5 to 7 minutes apart for an hour and they are getting stronger, " or "i am having 10 to 12 contractions in an hour.".
