Infants do not have this ability.  If your child  is experiencing reflux symptoms talk with your pediatrician.  However, please do not give your infant sodium bicarbonate, unless you are specifically to by your doctor and in what amount.

Perhaps your bodywork was performed after trying this treatment?  Using hco3 can dangerously raise your bloodpressure, so be careful.

The pancreas assists with both functions--by production of bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) that neutralizes stomach acid in the material that enters the small bowel, as well as production of enzymes that work to digest starches and proteins in that ingested food.
