Based on their description, it appears no different than any other denture you would have fabricated at any other dental office. Plain dentures, over time, cause the bone to start to be resorbed since it is not being stimulated  directly they way teeth and implants do.  You can also get this resorption with periodontitis.

Adhesive?: By "gum", do you mean that sticky, gooey denture adhesive (glue)  you put inside the denture to make it less loose?  If you have to put lots of it, you may need a new denture, or at least a procedure called "reline" to fill in the gap with more sturdy material than the denture glue.  If the fit is fine but you want to know the best way to remove it, a special denture brush ; spray is the best.

Carefully: Chill the dentures in cold water. Then use a wooden stick -- popsicle, tongue depressor, cuticle pusher-- or something that will not cut or scratch the acrylic, to scrape the gum off. Good luck.

How old ?: Dentures are made out of acrylic, which is hard, but is a tiny bit porous. Over time, stains can be absorbed into the plastic. If this is the case, you will have a very hard time getting them cleaned. Many dental offices, through their labs, offer a denture cleaning service for a nominal fee. Ask your dentist if s/he can help.

Your dentist can review all medical conditions and discuss.
