Many possibilities: Breathing requires adequate strength in the breathing muscles, open airways & a brain that sends messages to define the proper rate & depth. Most kids with issues of something blocking the airways & snoring is a sign of this. Kids 6-8 normally have a lot of tonsil/adenoidal mass & some snore, but this fades as the kid gets older.If 3-6 & snoring a lot , there is risk of sleep apnea & rx needed.

Death by drugs: Very sad to read of another drug related death. Most likely, the muscle relaxation effects of Valium and excess alcohol most likely caused slack throat muscles that fell,I to the air passage ways of posterior pharynx or throat, leading to snoring sounds. If opioids had been used, there is a new product, EVZIO, that is an auto injector which blocks opioid effects, and can save lives

This condition puts more stress on your heart, raises your blood pressure, and can even result in a heart attack or stroke. Please see your physician for further evaluation. Your evaluation will probably include a sleep study. Be careful. This is a very dangerous condition.

A few things: Sleep on your side instead of your back.  You may need a wedge pillow. You can also try those breathe right nose strips.  Lose weight to a goal bmi of < 26.

Yes : Large tonsils & adenoids can cause snoring and eventually lead to sleep apnea. The enlarged adenoids can be caused by infections and/or allergies and since dad suffers from sleep apnea and apples don't fall far from trees it might not be a bad idea to have him evaluated by your pmdand or ent.

Possibly: can be related to upper airway obstruction or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Has anyone ever commented that you seem to stop breathing when snoring. You should consider a polysomnogram ( sleep study) and an ENT evaluation.

how come people who snore really loud die and don't wake up from the loudness of the snoring?

Some do: Interestingly some due.  The major reason, though, is because sleep is actually an unconscious state so our bodies react much less to the environment.  Usually a very major noise or change will wake us up unless we are in lighter sleep at the time when this occurs.
