i suffer with constipation , i always get hot smelly farts & sometimes my stools burn while going why is that ?

Bowel Disorders.: See your doctor for an evaluation.  Constipation by itself could resolve easily with laxatives, such as Senna S, but sometimes other conditions, like lactose intolerance (milk and dairy products intolerance) can cause similar symptoms. Important to find out the cause.  Treatment is different.

can constipation cause burning and smelly gas? i didn't poop for 3 days and whenever i pass gas it burns and smells bad.

Diet and water: You may need to increase your intake of fiber and water. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Consult this site for fiber foods, or take a fiber laxative like Metamucil.

Constipation: Yes, keep doing what you are doing. I would also recommend you try some senna. Good gentle laxative. Eat and apple too.

my 7 weeks old baby has a smelly gas. he poops twice a week and poop is mushy no sign of constipation. however he does cry sometimes when he wants to poop. could the smelly gas be caused by my diet because i am breastfeeding. please advise. thank you?

: The odor of poop is triggered by bacterial growth in the digestive tract as they feed on undigested waste. Germs get there naturally within the babies first day when they swallow feeds. Infants have weak belly muscles &amp; often use their breathing/fussing muscles to help poop, These are all natural findings. There are probiotics that can alter the poop smell.

Constipation: You can increase the stool softener to twice per day, add miralax (polyethylene glycol) twice per day.  You can use a suppository or enema if not having any success.

What to do: Stay well hydrated (at least 8 - 8 ounces glasses of water per day). Try to get in 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day – get that fiber in. Stay physically active with regular exercise.  There are a number of over the counter laxatives that can be taken orally to help pass retained fecal matter.

YES: Constipation results in a buildup of feces in your body, the bulk of which is bacteria, which produce gas as they digest the waste from your bowels. More stool=more bacteria=more gas,  as you have noticed! more frequent bowel motions decrease the gas (and odor) so get on a good diet and use softeners--discuss with your doctor if you need help.

No known disease?: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disorder causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber plus water, Miralax (polyethylene glycol), Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe helpful meds too.

bowel obstruction: This change in your bowel habits could be a partial bowel obstruction. If you have pain lasting more a few hours, fever, vomiting then go directly to er for evaluation. Call a family or friend to help you.
