See your doctor: It is blood under skin and nail.If under the nail it may need to be drained. May need to be xrayed to rule out a fracture. Ice and elevate it till you see a doctor.

I would encourage: You to have this injury checked medically. If your last tetanus shot was  more than 10 years ago or you aren't sure when it was, then it is time for another one.  Concerned by your description of finger - would want to rule out infection.

I do not know: BUT the discoloration of your fingers is concerning for some possible vascular (Blood flow) issues within your fingers,, so you need to see the Dr. as soon as possible and get that evaluated.  If you are not allergic to it or do not have any contraindications to aspirin, then start taking an 81mg until you call the Dr. for an appt asap.  best wishes.

Infection?: This could be a local reaction to the sliver having been in finger. Also could be a sign of infection.

Subungual hematoma: You will likely develop a clot beneath your fingernail. Your nail will likely fall off in the next 3-6 months if not sooner. If the pain is unbearable, you can see a physician about drilling a small hole in your fingernail or removing the nail completely.

Probably: Just because you are black and blue doesnt
mean you have a serious injury. You may just
have a bruise/ contusion. On the other hand
i have seen many patients with minimal swelling and pain who turn out to have fractures
so if there is nay question i would get an xray and an exam.

Nail bruised?: If the nail is black and blue, it means you have a bruise/blood collection under the nail.  Piercing the nail will allow the blood to evacuate, and will relieve the pressure.  However, you should see your doctor, as he can anesthetize your finger first if it is needed.  If the finger is broken, you should be seen as well.

Probably need to se: splint ,ice, rest alleve, if persists more than1 to2 days you should have an xray
