Folliculitis is commonly caused by bacteria on the skin.  Warm compresses may be applied to the rash but often it will resolve on it's own.  Avoid shaving the affected region until the rash clears.

Doctor can look: One's primary care doctor or a dermatologist can take a look. After scalp trauma, the injury may resolve and leave a bald spot. Sometimes skin glands and/or hair follicles get messed up and heal under the skin, meaning they got covered over... leading to a bump which is actually a small cyst full of stuff that could not get out. Of course, a coincidental mole could also grow at a scar spot.
