Go to see MD: You should go to see your doctor and get yourself checked. There are different things like autoimmune disorder, infection, chronic inflammation or malignancy - at your age- hodgkin's lymphoma, testicular cancer are things to be ruled out. However since you mentioned that it has been there for 3 years -then hodgkin's , leukemia /ca  would be less likely-as the problem. Go to see your doc for eval.

some swollen lymph nodes in my body have been present for a couple weeks. i went to a doctor they did blood work and it was normal. he said not to worry about size unless they grow. so if lymph nodes are under 1 cm should i still be concerned?

Watch and wait: You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of  the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.

i recently had ct & diagnosed with several swollen lymph nodes around my aorta. the largest at 4 cm. what can cause this ?

Why was CT done?: They are markers of a reactive, inflammatory, or infectious process.  There is concern for cancer but would need to know more history.  Should have the doctor who ordered the scan explain the findings.

swollen lymph nodes all over body. all less than 2 cm but i keep getting more. low grade temps over 6mths. normal ct scan... what can it be?

Maybe nothing wrong: With small nodes and normal CT -- implying no enlarged nodes internally, no abnormalities of spleen or liver -- maybe nothing is wrong. Lymph nodes under 2 cm may not be enlarged at all -- assuming the lumps you feel are lymph nodes in the first place. Has your doctor confirmed them? Any lab results, e.g. HIV, syphilis, blood count? If your doc has reassured you all is well, I would agree.

Needs a medical chec: Any lump or growth in the body requires a medical check up in order to make sure that it is not a cancer. So I would advise you to get your father to go see his PCP for a medical check up and possibly some tests to define the nature of this mass.

Could be many?: Swollen lymph nodes could indicate an infection by bacteria, virus or fungus.  It could mean infiltration by tumor.  The significance would be determined by your clinical presentatiion.  Older patient?  Younger patinet?  Known acute illness?  Known or unknown cancer?  The lymph nodes above the clavicles drain/filter  the head and neck.  If this is new i would get checked.  If old, ?.  See md.

Infection...: The most common cause of slightly swollen lymph nodes around the neck are infections caused by viruses and bacteria. Upper respiratory infections, mononucleosis, and strep throat are common infectious agents. After the infection is cleared by the body, the swollen lymph nodes can sometimes take 1-2 months to subside. Much rarer causes are cancers like lymphoma.
