Unwise: Taking a sedative the night before an important test may make the brain less able to function at its peak during the test. I think this would be a very unwise move.

Maybe: If you have been prescribed it, probably.  However, you should have someone drive you to the office and back and make sure you advise your dentist as soon as you get there.  Better yet, call your dentist now just to confirm that it is alright to do that. Get it checked out!: Seek medical help to determine to cause of your lack of sleep quality. Typically a collapse airway is involved and today, a simple overnight take home sleep test can provide all the information needed to determine if a potentially life threatening, life shortening condition of obstructive sleep apnea may be at play. Do it, it may save your life!

Sleep: Occassional use of a medication to help with sleep is usually fine. Try working with sleep hygiene as well.Maintain a regular bedtime and awakening time schedule including weekends. Get up about the same time every day, regardless of what time you fell asleep. 
2. Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine. Relaxing rituals prior to bedtime many include a warm bath or shower, aroma therapy, >>>.

Depends: This depends upon what you have taken and in what dosage.  If you have taken something like Ambien (zolpidem) you should be able to arouse to urinate without difficulty.  If you have taken a barbiturate, this may pose a problem.
