Yes: Sleep apnea a can occur at any phase of sleep. They tend to happen more frequently in the rapid eye movement (rem) stage of sleeping where your muscles are more relaxed. A sleep study, or polysomnogram, can determine if you have obstructive sleep apnea and the stages of sleep they most occur in, in addition to if your oxygen levels drop or your body isn't sending signals to breathe.

first morning after c pap, im 18 and have sleep apnea, doc told me i wasnt getting any rem sleep, does that mean i didn't develop properly? im scared.

Nope: It likely means your sleep apnea prevented you from getting into rem. Once treated,  many apnea patients have "rem rebound" and dream a lot for several days or so.  Then it settles down.

Apnea symptoms: Sleep apnea central or obstructive can cause the symptoms. The bigger issue is how the oxygen drops at night. The doctor should have that on the report. If this clears with CPAP bipap, then there should be considerable improvement. Given the  symptoms however i would also think that a general work up for causes of cognitive deficits would also be in order and your family doctor can take care of that. 20% of people with sleep apnea also have depression and if that is the case that should also be treated. can citalopram, the generic of celexa (citalopram) cause sleep apnea, sleepiness during day, lack of rem sleep, sleep problems?

Celexa (citalopram): Cannot cause sleep apnea or sleep disorders but it has an antihistamine component that can cause some people to be sleepily during the day .llexapro is basically the same psychiatric medication purified without the antihistamine so it has less side effects

Consider Nuvigil: For patients with ongoing sleepiness in spirited of cpap, Nuvigil is usually the next recorded treatment. It only occasionally raises blood pressure, but you should have it checked if you start on it. Good luck to you.

what are the dangers in using a dental device to treat sleep apnea when a cpap is needed i was not allowed to sleep on my side during my sleep study.  the results indicate only 3 hours of sleep all night and 0% rem.  i feel the results may have been diffe

Did : Did you have a sleep study with cpap?  If so what are the results? What CPAP setting was effective in eliminating your symptoms. Without seeing your sleep study and evaluating your airway it is difficult to determine if a dental appliance will adequately treat the osa.Dental appliances are use to treat obstructions at the level of the tongue. If you have a large apnea-hypopnea index (ahi) and CPAP is indicated then you may not get relief from the dental appliance because the appliance may not correct the problem at the site of your obstruction or the obstruct may be at a level that the appliance cannot affect.

You need to discuss these issues with your sleep specialist, and have an evaluation by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who treats sleep apnea.

Get more REM: Sound sleep is the best day.  Withdrawal and discontinuation of medications that suppress rem is helpful in a number of patients.

Many medications: Sleep can be affected by chronic sleeping pills, but tranquilizers, sedatives, and antidepressants might disrupt normal sleep architecture.  Other culprits could include recreational drugs and alcohol.  Emotional dysfunctions can also certainly affect one's sleep pattern.

are there any signs of going in to rem sleep to quickly?

REM phenomena: A lot of people complain of intense vivid lifelike dreams where they wake up feeling like they have hallucinated.  It would be hard to tell most times without a sleep study or someone monitoring eeg.
