No: This is very common.  The "old fashioned" treatment of skin tags was to tie a small not around the tag and tie it tight.  This would "choke" the tag.  It would turn black and fall off.  In some way, you gave yourself a similar treatment.  There is actually a study comparing this method to a more modern "surgery" of the tag and it showed that the older string method had better cosmetic results.

Color change: This  needs to be checked by a dermatologist for proper evaluation. If no access, post a photo to better evaluate.

Black Skin Tag: Accidental pinching or twisting of the tag could restrict blood flow to the growth, leading the tag to die and turn black. Though likely still harmless, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist to have the growth examined and possibly removed.

See a Dr.: Not possible to remove yourself without danger of injury or infection. See a Dr for evaluation and treatment. Since it is dark colored, it may need to be sent for pathology to rule out melanoma.

Biopsy: The tag may have had some internal bleeding leading to the color change. Ask your MD to send it for pathology if you are worried about cancer risks. Generally skin tags are not high risk for this but if you have a strong family history of malignant melanoma review the risks with the MD taking the tag off. Good luck to you!

Torsion: Twisting the tag can cause an infarction of it. This means the blood supply was turned off and the tissue has died. It is likely to dry-up and drop off. If not it is very easy to remove it. No stitches.

: Often a skin tag will turn black &amp; fall off in several days as the blood supply to the tag clotted off. If the underlying area looks perfectly normal, I don't think he'll have to get checked by a physician, dermatologist or urologist.
