Likely Okay: The main concern when using colchicine with a statin medication is myotoxicity (muscle toxicity).   If you decide to use colchicine for your gout flare then notify your doctor immediately if you begin to have generalized muscle pain or very dark urine.   This can be a sign of a serious medical condition called rhabdomyolysis.  While this is rare it can be very serious.  Hope this helps. God Bless

dr switched me back to 40mg simvastatin after taking 20mg lipitor (atorvastatin). should i get off the lipitor (atorvastatin) for a few days before starting simvastatin?

Not necessary: Simvastatin 40mg is similar in potency to 20mg of lipitor (atorvastatin).  There is no need to stop Lipitor (atorvastatin) for a few days before starting Simvastatin as they are similar drugs (both are statins).  The Simvastatin can be started the day after stopping the Lipitor (atorvastatin) -- for most efficacy, take a statin at bedtime.

Yes: No contraindications.  Cialis and similar drugs should not be taken with other nitrates or Nitroglycerin or Alpha adrenergic agents.

Simvastatin: The elimination half life is less than 5 hours, levels should be undetectable past 48 hours

Cholesterol: 300 is quite a high level for total cholesterol. Coenzyme q10 probably won't hurt, but it may be time to consider switching to a more potent statin like Lipitor (atorvastatin) or crestor (rosuvastatin). Also, having a healthy diet and exercising regularly is important.

Speak to your doctor: It is best not to stop a medication,especially if you're not currently having side effects,without discussing this with your doctor. He or she will consider your entire medical history, lab tests and exam and be better able to judge when and whether you can come off of a medication. Be careful how much acetaminophen you take with simvastatin to avoid liver issues.

my ldl is 46 and triglycerides 540, i am taking  simvastatin 40. do i need another chol med to target  and fix my triglycerides.

It depends: Make sure your blood was drawn after fasting at least 12 hours.  Nonfasting blood contains high triglyceride levels after a fatty meal.
If triglycerides remain very high, your doctor might add a fibrate medication.  If that is done, one must check your blood within the next few weeks to ensure you don't experience a rare adverse reaction called rhabdomyolysis, a muscle inflammation.

is simvastatin 20mg contraindicated with taking atenolol 50mg? she said shes nauseous after taking simvastatin, is it still ok to cont. it?

Fine in combination: Hi. Simvastatin and atenolol are fine to take in combination. Simvastatin works best taken in the evening. It doesn't cause nausea but maybe if she takes it with dinner that might help her. Of course the nausea could be from many things, and she may need to see her doctor for that. Good luck to her!

can l temporarily stop simvastatin and immediately take intraconazole? after finish taking itraconazole can i immediately go back to simvastatin?
