45 isn't elderly.: Over age 65 is a higher risk group - especially if combined with  underlying conditions like diabetes,  cancer, kidney or lung disease, hypertension, obesity, immunity issues etc.  There isn't 1 # that can be quoted for mortality rate. Worldometer for New York City until 14 APR showed 23.1% of COVID deaths from ages 45 to 64. But only 59 of 1,581 deaths were in people without underlying illness.

If there was a nasogastric tube for feeding , the incidence of sinusitis is higher

Yes it can: Hydromorphone is respiratory depressant and can make a patient with pneumonia and sepsis worse and can cause low blood pressure

an elderly relative in hospital had a result of "vacuolated neutrophils +". i understand that this can be an early sign of sepsis. he's only had this test once but 6 days later he doesn't seem to be any worse. he hasn't been on abx. i'm at a loss..

Ask more: If he is an inpatient in the hospital, they should have all sorts of cultures still cooking or finished.  Some of the more rare pathogens (bugs) take longer to show up in culture, but by 6 days, most will be done.  Ask the Dr. what tests have been dane and what has been "ruled out."  (Tests are negative.)

Incontinence: There are several types of incontinence: stress, urge &amp; overflow come to mind. Stress is more common in women while overflow is in men (think big prostate). Infection is common cause as is dementia (they don't know better or can't find toilet). Functional incontinence is someone who can't get to toilet in time. This is not same as urge. Think of someone who just had joint replacement.

Less calories: As we age, we typically become less active, although ideally we'd actually strive to maintain our previous activity level. But for the average joe(sephine), our metabolism slows down. As such we don't need as many calories as we once consumed. On the other hand, we still need to consume plenty of water & fiber. Dash diet & mediterranean diet are both excellent choices regardless of age.
