Yes: Not necessarily as a direct effect of the drug, but either due to tumor lysis, to allergic reactions, or you may develop infections coincidentally.  It is not a generally reported side-effect of this medication, but no drugs are free of some associated complications.

Treatment is to : Relieve symptoms, possibly extend survival, but no cures.  Median survivals 8 - 12 months, which mean half die before that, half beyond that.  Those that respond seem to live longer, not necessarily because of the treatment.  Integrating symptom management helps you feel better, no harm to survival.

YES: Navelbine (vinorelbine) is chemotherapy. It works by not allowing cancer to divide. Its indicated as a single agent or in combination for lung cancer.  It has been used (off label) in breast and ovarian cancers as well.

No, but...: It has a fair chance of slowing the tumor. Some folks live for months or perhaps even longer comfortably even with liver metastases from lung cancer, especially if the response to chemotherapy has been good. I hope the two of you will have more quality time together. It will be his and your decision, with advice from the oncologist, when to stop treatment and choose comfort measures only.

Quality of life: If his cancer is controlled with chemotherapy, and he is pleased with his quality of life, I would continue the treatment. The medical oncologist will know if other agents can be used if navelbine (vinorelbine) stops being effective. If quality of life is low with the chemotherapy, it is reasonable to stop treatment and pursue hospice. It is a very personal decision.

If prescribed, safe: If your doctor has assessed your needs and prescribed zolpidem for you, it's safe to take intermittently.  It's intended to make you drowsy and fall asleep -- this is its main side effect.  Some people have also had sleepwalking incidents taking it though.  Have you had a full evaluation of your sleep complaints?

No need: There is no need to taper off. One just can stop this medication. But, your physician should be part of the process so that the right treatment with another medication can be instituted.
