Irregular bleeding: Some women after Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD insertion will have irregular bleeding and spotting that eventually stops in 2 to 3 months and then will have decreased bleeding or no bleeding at all the rest of the 5 years. Patience is all that is necessary. Some women will have minimal cramping for a few days to a month. The risk of spontaneous expulsion and perforation is very low, less than 1%. Ideal contraceptive

IUD: Although I am not aware of a specific product. I would recommend talking to a compounding pharmacist.  They may be able to direct you to a product that suites your needs.

IUD use: The "progesterone IUD" is available, and aside from the pain on insertion, and a statistically higher chance of pregnancy (usually due to movement into the cervical canal of the IUD) the IUD is well tolerated.  Any IUD is more uncomfortable if placed in women who have not had a term or near term pregnancy.

Bleeding or not: Some patients will have bleeding or spotting, and can have cramping, particularly the first day after insertion.  However, it can also cause periods to stop altogether.  They are generally very well tolerated.
