can an improperly placed flu shot cause arm or shoulder pain for several weeks after the injection? have had upper arm/shoulder discomfort w/certain movements ever since my flu shot and haven't done anything out of the ordinary to cause the soreness?

Unusual: Flu shot pain should be gone within a few days.  Hard to understand how it got complicated.  Might wonder about local bleeding/ bruising, or even infection/ abscess.  Contact source of injection and discuss your concerns,

Deltoid pain: No. Take ibuprofen. Lie on a heating pad or hot water bottle when sleeping or inactive.

Flu shot: Symptoms can last for up to a week. Try Tylenol , two very 4 to 6 hours. Good Luck

Soulder pain: Shoulder pain is common and over time the shoulder can loosen and sublux. This can cause pain to a degree where you can not move the shoulder.   Unlikely to completely dislocate without trauma or fall.  Shoulder pain can also come on from bursitis , tendinitis or problems with your rotator cuff. See your provider.  Especially if you can not move your arm.

Sure: The vaccine can cause a generalized immune and inflammatory reaction and it would not be unusual for that to extend around under the shoulder and include the axilla/armpit.  As you were advised, you can ice it or take ibuprofen or naproxen for a couple of days. It really should dissipate within the next day or two. Good job on getting your flu shot:)

what can i do for underarm pain after flu shot?

Flu shot: After a vaccination, you can take Ibuprofen every 6-8 hours for pain caused by inflammation at the site of the vaccine.  A heating pad or a hot water bottle will help also.  If the site is itchy, you can also take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) every 6-8 hours as needed for itchiness.

i've been getting very severe joint pain after getting the flu shot.  i can't even move things sometimes. i get to the point of crying. extremely painful.?

Can happen!: It is uncommon, but painful joints and arthritis sx can occur after a flu shot.  Bear with it, because it is short lived. Low dose Prednisone (2.5-5mg) and nsaids should really improve your sx.  Please do not less this "bad" experience keep you from getting vaccinated in the future.
