?bursitis: could be deltoid bursitis.
does it hurt when you move it? does it hurt when you try to lift something? yes, it means inflammation.
ice paks alternated with warm wet compresses and gentle exercising range of motion may help. ibuprofen 800 three times a day may help. if no better after few days, see
orthopedic doc to avoid frozen shoulder problems.

Consider trigger poi: Areas localized pain easily located by experienced examiner. It could be a trigger point or myotonic point. Massage may help, needling or trigger point injections. Often occur in areas where there is repetitive overuse. A good physical therapist could tell you or osteopathic physician.

Cold then hot: The idea is to reduce pain fiber messages &amp; swelling the first 48 hrs with cool then to improve circulation to promote circulation after 48 hrs. Heat can increase pain if there is enough injury so it must be used with caution.

Shoulder bursitis: If it is not better after 4-5 months, then i would re-consider the diagnosis of bursitis, which should respond to rest in a few weeks. In particular, i would consider a condition like calcium deposits in the joint (calcific tendinitis). This will require a cortisone shot to dissolve the calcium, and won't get better without it. See an md--orthopedist preferred.

Cold- first 24-48 hr: followed by local heat plus BioFreeze and Advil or  Aleve if not allergic to NSAIDS. If not relieved, get examined.

See a doctor: See a doctor asap to get a diagnosis. You need an exam and maybe some test. Fibromyalgia usually causes pain everywhere, but especially bilateral upper back, chest, elbows, wrists, buttocks, hips and or knees.
