It would be safer: Gardasil is a 3-shot vaccine that prevents infection from 2 strains of HPV virus that cause cervical cancer, and 2 strains that cause genital warts. It also prevents anal warts (and maybe anal cancer) due to the same strains, in both men and women. The antibodies one produces from the vaccine flow in the bloodstream everywhere. Other body sites are probably protected, but this has not been proven.

Anytime: The immunity after third dose of a series is already there and boosted further. But one should be aware all vaccines are not 100% reliable. The only way to be sure is to have ur self checked for HPV. Some tests are available but not yet in the U.S.  But you have done your bit to minimize the risk as much as you can.

Protection delay: It takes the body 2-3 weeks to develop protective antibody to a vaccine. This would apply to the gardisil. The first dose would start the process, but long term protection would require completion of the series. You can/will have sex when you do, but do not expect the protection to be available before that interval.

Confusing question: The presence or absence of a gardisil shot does not define when most would have sex.If the question is how soon could you reasonably expect any benefit from the shot, that is 2-3 weeks after it is given.Exposure before it was given, or during that interval would not prevent acquisition of the germ.Failure to complete the 3 dose series would let the benifit gradually be lost.

Not in my opinion: You need to discuss that with your child and their doctor, it is to prevent hpv when they do have sex which hopefully won't be until they are older which depends on you and her !

: There's not enough information here to answer. Herpes does not make someone "tear" (i.e. a genital injury) from having sex; a physical injury probably is not a herpes outbreak. If you are taking anti-herpes treatment (e.g. acyclovir or valacyclovir) to reduce outbreak frequency, speak with the doctor who prescribed it; but from what you say here, there is no obvious reason to stop taking it.

Look for other STD&#x27;s: If 2 people haven&#x27;t had sex but know about each other&#x27;s contact with HPV+ people, that means the couple talks about STD&#x27;s (communication is good!). A man can get Gardasil to prevent getting the 4 vaccine strains, but the shots won&#x27;t get rid of HPV strains he already has. More importantly, the couple is talking, so they can go together to their doctors to be checked for other STD&#x27;s, like chlamydia.

Yes: keep in mind the vaccine covers certain strains and it is possible to get a strain that is not covered, or you may not respond to the vaccine as well.  The time frame is fine as long as it is longer than recommended

Use a condom: Vaccinating with Gardasil can help prevent HPV, but affords no protection against any of the other sexually transmitted infections. Hence, sex with a condom is still recommended unless you are involved in a monogamous relationship with a person whose personal STI status is known to be negative.
