It varies, but: It varies depending upon the preparation, but safety and efficacy have never been established. What kind of prostate problem do you have? Check w/your doctor. Don't get your medical information from friends, tv or the internet.

Probably not: There shouldn't be a problem. However, just because quarterback joe likes it (and gets paid to be a shill for it) doesn't mean it works. I'd talk to my doctor and i'd be very careful about stopping Flomax (tamsulosin) and depending on unproven therapy.

: Gynecomastia is an uncommon (0.1-1%) side effect of wellbutrin by DRUGS.COM but taking saw palmetto does NOT exacerbate that side effect, i.e. there is no reported interaction between wellbutrin and saw palmetto.

Yes.: Does not hurt the person and has definite, albeit mild benefits.  If i were on a medication for bph, i would take this supplement.

Probably not: There's much "pop" / "traditional" support and a believable mechanism of action, but it failed the last three out of three big controlled studies.

Resume normal life: These really are questions for your tumt urologist. Urologists are very well compensated for tumt, some feel overcompensated. However, you could both try to stop taking saw palmetto, which doesn't do much anyway (in my opinion) and try ; resume sex which will hopefully cheer both you ; your partner. Good luck.

Mo: Nothing that you mentioned shrinks the prostate.   Flomax only relaxes the smoothe muscle component of the prostate.  Otc products largely are  ineffective.   Prescription Proscar or Avodart (dutasteride) are the only drugs that actually shrink the prostate.

Thanks for asking!: I was an investigator in an nih study adressing this question. The results were published and there was no difference between placebo and saw palmetto.

Changing treatment: Yes. It is safe. The only outstanding question would the saw palmetto be strong enough to treat your prostate hypertrophy.  You will know within seven days after the change.

Effects vary: Everyone is not the same, so one medication may work better for you than the rest.  There are really two main types of medications to help with the prostate - one opens the urination channel more and the others primarily help actually shrink the prostate itself (helping flow).  All men will have prostate (plumbing-type)troubles if we live long enough.
