No: The constant running, jumping and twisting required to play basketball will tend to make it worse. Sciatica needs time to resolve.

Stretching perhaps: We feel that inactivity can make sciatica worse, and do know that many discs can dry out (dessicate) over 9-10 months.  Traditional exercise programs use williams exercises, but the newer mckenzie program is more effective.  Gentle, supervised pilates, and feldenkreis may benefit.  Proper gradual stretching is very useful.  Learn these approaches from an expert physical therapist.

You don't need phiso: If the nerve is just pinched, then it mayheal by itself.The therapy may help it heal sooner and reduce the inflamation

L.p. shunt: Since spinal nerve irritation is listed as a possible problem with lp shunts, I would ask an expert who places these shunts whether sciatic nerve irritation could occur in your case. A neurosurgeon is best qualified to answer your question.

Injection may have : hit the sciatic nerve. . Continue to work out; however, very important to communicate this issue to treating physician. Exercise is not an issue. You must be re-checked.

Yes: You should discuss with your OB too.  You should be fine to walk, stretch, lift light weights, yoga, etc as long as the exercises feel ok.  Seeing a physical therapist can help to give you guidelines on good exercises as well.

soreness on bottom right buttock area. not the coccyx. more so the actual butt cheek (sorry). wondering if my sciatic nerve is inflamed? or is this a cyst forming? any idea how to rid myself of the pain?

: This does not sound like sciatica, but more like a cyst or abscess forming, although it is difficult to say without seeing exactly where it is. Would recommend warm compresses to the area several times/day and ibuprofen or acetaminophen if you have no contraindication to taking those. Watch for increased pain, redness, fever. Please see your doctor if continues or worsens.

could constip/distension after prolonged diarrhea cause sciatic/nerve irritation? 3 days now w/continuous (ie constant not crampy) bilateral calf pain. no unusual exercise. hist of ibs, fasciculation

No: Diarrhea and constipation do not cause sciatica.  Bilateral calf pain is probably unrelated to the change in bowel habits.  Bilateral calf pain is usually due to something higher up than the calf, such as sciatica or some type of generalized inflammatory condition.  See your primary care physician for follow up.

USUALLY disc disease: The sciatic nerve can 'get pinched' by a bulging disc in the low back.  The mechanism of injury for bulging disc is usually some type of lifting injury with 'bent over posture' or twisting.  I had a patient 'sneeze so hard' he developed a completely weak leg and had surgery the same day.  Usually in men, another cause of sciatic compression is sitting on a wallet causing pain 'down the leg!'.
