is acupuncture really painful?

Hardly: I have several patients who are actually phobic of needles who regularly get acpuncture. Why? Because it works & usually is  painless. In the hands of a gentle needler - insertion are not usually felt. Using a "push the finger" technique- penetration of the skin is generally not felt. There are some specific points which can be uncomfortable (so i generally use alternate sites for these). Enjoy!

Acupuncture may be: of benefit. I recommend seeing your physician to have the source of your pain evaluated. Diagnostic assessment will help determine what treatment options are available. Acupuncture is a good approach for many causes of foot/ walking pain (but not all). I have only commented about acupuncture (and not massage) as that is an area of expertise.

it has been 8 mos. after knee arthro hurt it jogging. still painful. will acupuncture help?

May need to stop: Often after knee surgery high impact activity needs to be modified or curtailed. I would recommend low or no impact aerobic activity instead like cycling or swimming as an example. Perhaps working with physical therapy may help but in any case have great running shoes replace every 6 months and rest knee with any pain until resolves. If pain still persists see your doctor.

Not normally: In the hands of a good acupuncturist it is likely that you will not feel the needle insertions.

No, acupuncture: Is rarely painful. Well, i guess if the acupuncturist had really  poor technique that could cause you pain. Most of my patients don't feel the insertions. It is very beneficial for anxiety and stress. Take care.

i had acupuncture today on my neck shldrs& lwr back, i have  hard round and painful to touch lumps under my skin where some needles were. concern?

Pickering?: If your provider pickered trigger (ashi) points this could lead to tenderness and swelling.  In this situation - it is a normal reaction.

NOT painful!!!: If acupuncture was painful it would not be very popular. One might expect that sticking needles in you would be painful, but the needles are very thin and they barely go into the skin so any discomfort is really minimal, nothing at all like getting a shot. Then if you get a good treatment it puts you in to a state of relaxation and sometimes even bliss! As for how long, it is highly variable...

Whatever works: 42 yo female w. IBS-like sx&#x27;s post-appy &amp; laparoscopy. Med literature reports adhesions routine after abdominal-pelvic surgery. Iatrogenic? Absent obstruction avoid explorations. Codeine contraindicated. Relax peristalsis via Bentyl, (dicyclomine) biofeedback, mindfulness therapies, massage, swimming, ingested Cannabis sativa (cold prep. under 180 degrees to avoid &quot;high&quot;; tea, tincture, butter), &amp; Acupuncture.

hi doctor my arm and shoulder is paining everyday since february. i had acupuncture 3 times twice physiotherapy used efinex for the pain but its still sore and painful everyday. it's affecting my neck as well as i have pain in my left rib?

Pain treatment: What is the cause of your pain?  What has your assessment shown to date?  Is this musculoskeletal, nerve pain etc?  Different types of pain can be addressed using various modality. As an acupuncturist, I advise my patients with chronic neck, shoulder, arm pain that it may take at least 12 sessions, before they are seeing strong results.

I would say that : &gt; 90% of the patient's i treat with acupuncture rave about it. However, acupuncture needs to be used for issues where it is indicated. It doesn't treat all conditions. Sometimes it is best as an adjunct with standard medical treatment. Western and eastern medicine can often fit hand in hand with excellent results.
