Be seen: I would sure be seen, especially if you have not had problems with shortness of breath before.  It could be as simple as a little fluid overload from the fluids you got in surgery, but a pulmonary embolus from a blood clot is potentially life threatening and has been reported after elective knee surgeries.  Let your surgeon know.

Your symptoms warrant further investigation, including a Complete blood count and markers of inflammation.
Please monitor your temperature, and see your PCP.

Most likely: A normal healing phenomenon.  The skin can itch while healing itself back together. Additionally the absorbable stitches placed under the skin can cause itching as they dissolve.

when can i hike after knee surgery? i need to go for arthroscopic knee surgery for meniscus repair. i'm planning a vacation in three months to do some moderate hiking. am i being too optimistic about the recovery period?

That : That is probably a bit on the optimistic side. This would be something to discuss with the surgeon of course. A meniscal repair as opposed to a debridement would require a much longer period of rest because you want to give the repair a chance to work before you go back to putting your knee to work. If the meniscus is debrided back to a stable border (and not repaired) then there is nothing that would keep you from getting back on the trails even before 3 months.

Swelling : After a major surgery can take months or even up to one year to totally resolve. Consult with your surgeon.

Depends: Usually this is best discussed with the surgeon who did your surgery.  It depends on the type of surgery, the pain level, allergies, current medications, other attempts at pain control, the quality of the pain and its location so i would recommend an evaluation !
